DDP Developes LED Backlighting for Aviation and Military Applications

El Segundo,CA - July 22, 2008

DDP, a leader in engineered LED solutions, has designed an LED backlighting solution that is compliant with night vision imaging system (NVIS) devices for aviation and military applications. This assembly uses 2 SMT LEDs to create a 28VDC PCB array that offers a true NVIS compatible Green Class A light source. The color combination provides the best mix of light for high and low ambient conditions. The resulting device offers 50,000 hours of life.

DDP has already delivered such products to Airpath Instruments, a manufacturer of military and aviation compasses. Airpath needed a solution to meet the challenges presented by using incandescent bulbs with a color-correcting filter to create the NVIS Green Class A light in military compasses. The manufacturing process was labor intensive and incandescent bulb lifetime was unreliable due to power surges, shock, vibration as well as high current draw.

"We developed a cost-effective LED solution that significantly decreased the cost in labor and reduced the number of incandescent bulbs required. This guarantees energy savings of up to 80%," said Tony Toniolo, DDP President.

DDP LED solutions are available in standard or custom assemblies. Samples are available from DDP with a typical lead-time of 4 weeks.
